HISTORY OF BARANGAY CANLASOG
Barangay Canlasog is one of the 23 barangays comprising the Municipality of Larena, Province of Siquijor declared under Executive Order 422 issued by President Carlos P. Garcia on March 14, 1961.
Barangay Canlasog is one of the 23 barangays under the Municipal Government of Larena, a fifth√ class municipality under the Province of Siquijor.
Based on historical records, it has been said that this barangay was known as KUTINGON many years ago. According to stories, the word KUTINGON was only changed its name way back during the Spanish Regime who set foot for the first time in this mountainous and secluded barangay in the Municipality of Larena. The Spanish colonizers asked the settlers about the name of the place, and then the settlers answered in chorus, “KANG KULAS ISOG.” The settlers were thinking all along that what the foreigners were asking was about the owner of this land instead the name of the place was “KANG KULAS ISOG.”
After several years of settling the place, the colonizers found it unpleasant and irritating to hear “KANG KULAS ISOG.” Thus they took one syllable/sound from each word instead of three. The sound “KAN” from the word “KANG”, “LAS” from the word “KULAS” and the word sound “SOG” from the word “ISOG.” They combined the three words/sound (KAN-LA-SOG) into one word KANLASOG. Later, the letter K was changed with letter C because there is no letter K in the Spanish alphabet. Since then, until now, the place is better known as Barangay Canlasog which derived from the phrase “KANG KULAS ISOG.”
Based on the 2024 Commission on Election (COMELEC) records, the barangay has 283 of registered voters.
